2011 started off with a bang for SPW Productions! The winter months consisted of our annual series of bridal showcases throughout Southern New Jersey with DJ’s Available Sound & Light where we staged numerous, high-end bridal fashions shows. The spring season kicked off with 3 exciting new events and 1 much-loved annual event. The PIFA (Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts) Fashion Show at the Kimmel Center on April 8th was part of a month- long celebration of the arts in Philadelphia. This Paris-inspired event showcased 9 local fashion designers and 30 of the best student designers in the area from five local fashion design schools. Philadelphia native, couture designer Ralph Rucci, was presented with the PIFA Visionary Award for Fashion as the finale to the evening.
SPW Productions also worked with the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia to produce the Cherry Blossom 5K & Sakura Sunday on April 10th as part of the annual Cherry Blossom Festival. The festival took place at the scenic Horticulture Center in Fairmount Park, underneath the blossoming cherry trees. Thousands of guests attended Sakura Sunday for a day of traditional Japanese food, gifts and entertainment all kicked-off with a 5 K Run/Walk.
“Get in the Game,” Philadelphia Future’s annual bowling & billiards fundraiser took place at North Bowl on April 17th. Hundreds of guests attended the tournament to support Philadelphia Futures Scholarship Program, participate in raffles and games, and mingle with their favorite Philadelphia Phillies! This annual program was co-chaired this year by Ryan Madson and Carlos Ruiz, who were joined by teammates Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins, John Mayberry Jr. and Ben Francisco, all lending their support to this very successful event.
April continued to keep the SPW team hopping with the Wells Fargo Unveiling Parade and Reception. The mini-parade from City Hall to the main bank branch on Broad Street included a trolley filled with Wells Fargo employees, the Eastwick Commandoes Drill Team, team mascots and the famous Wells Fargo Stagecoach pulled by horses down Broad Street! The parade concluded with a ceremony on Broad Street which included remarks from Mayor Nutter and a 120 member flash mob from the Opera Company of Philadelphia singing America the Beautiful followed by a delicious brunch for participants and Wells Fargo VIP’s.
On April 30th, SPW Productions planned a French-themed cocktail reception for Wells Fargo to coordinate with the Paris-inspired PIFA street fair on Broad Street. The 100-guest reception took place inside of the beautiful Wells Fargo bank lobby, itself transformed into a Parisian street scene. Guests enjoyed a French acoustic jazz while sampling French-inspired food and wine pairings.
We continued our busy season with the Moore College of Art & Design fashion show in Aviator Park on Saturday, May 14th. The Sophomore class presented classic Childrenswear, the Junior class presented Swimwear and Menswear. Also shown in this dynamic show were 22 Senior Collections and Senior Eveningwear. The Senior Fashion Show Production class works with SPW to produce all aspects of the evening including music, A/V, staging, seating, backstage, models and hair and make-up.
We just finished working with The Foundation for Breast & Prostate Health on the 9th annual Gary
Papa Run on Father’s Day, June 19th at Fairmount Park. It was a huge success with over 4,000
participants, making it the largest turnout so far! Right after that we jumped into Wawa Welcome
America, an 11-day Independence Day festival in Philadelphia. We are currently busy working on
the 18th annual Phashion Phest, the Delaware Valley’s premier fashion and beauty event. This
year’s event will take place on September 21st at The Shops at Liberty Place. Stay tuned for details!
